The Congenital Heart Foundation of Louisiana is a nonprofit organization bringing emotional and financial support to children, adults and their families faced with the lifelong burdens of congenital heart disease.

About Us

The Congenital Heart Foundation was formed in 2016 by Dr. Michael Brumund and a caring group of community leaders to assist patients and their families across Louisiana regardless of age, location, or financial status.

There are many ways you can help the Congenital Heart Foundation of Louisiana.  You can help by donating money, by organizing a fundraising event, or by volunteering at planned fundraisers.

  • Did You Know?

    Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defect.  While many are diagnosed during pregnancy, some can go undetected through childhood and into adulthood. Click here for more information.

    Critical congenital heart defects can be diagnosed after the first twenty-four hours of birth using a simple test known as pulse oximetry.   All parents should request this simple test before discharge.  Click here for more information.

    As treatment for congenital heart defects advances, more individuals with CHDs are living into adulthood.  Onset of adulthood illness need to be monitored and treated differently for adults with congenital heart defects.  Click here for more information.

    While insurance may cover the various medical interventions necessary to treat congenital heart disease, families must cover the cost of transportation, housing and food while a loved one is in-patient.  These costs can be thousands of dollars for each month of hospitalization.
